Unboxing the New DJI OSMO Mobile 2

This is the unboxing week here at Atellani. We’ve just received the newest version of the handheld smartphone gimbal powered by DJI.

“Shake it like a polaroid picture”, as a famous song would say. Well, while it’s always nice to shake things off sometimes (with a new gadget maybe?), what is not very cool is to record unwanted shaky videos with our phones. Especially when we are trying to capture an important moment. That’s the main reason why we decided to give DJI OSMO Mobile 2 a try. Here are our thoughts:

The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is the sequel of the original gimbal for smartphone DJI Osmo Mobile and it has been presented last January at CES 2018. Despite from the previous version which is a niche product not made for everyone, we’re pretty sure that the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 will become a mainstream accessory for smartphones.

This version has lots of upgrades: first of all, the price. It’s now available for $129 which is an affordable price for amateur users (The DJI Osmo Mobile was sold for $229!). It’s made of high-strength nylon and now 16 grams lighter than the previous version, the handle is more ergonomic and the new spring-loaded clamp allows you to easily swap your smartphone without using any screws. This gimbal is made keeping Instagram story trends in mind which means that you can lock your smartphone’s portrait-orientation thanks to the gimbal holder.
The battery life has been extended to 15 hours which is a massive upgrade (it’s 3 times more than the previous version). Basically you can use it for an entire day out without carrying those godawful charging cables with you.
