We guess almost everyone knows that JPEG is one of the most popular formats for photos, whether you need it for websites or apps. The problem is that a large amount of JPEG files do not use an optimal compression and can weigh quite a lot, wasting valuable bytes and occupying too much space. Although, not everyone is aware that nowadays there is a way of balancing high quality images while still keeping a small file size, that’s exactly what iShrinker does!
When you upload a JPEG file, your image is analyzed by iShrinker. Using its own parameters together with Google’s Guetzli encoder, iShrinker produces visually indistinguishable images at a lower bit-rate than other common JPEG encoders. It uses Butteraugli, a perceptual distance metric, as the source of feedback in its optimization process. It reaches a 29-45% reduction in data size for a given perceptual distance. Unnecessary metadata and artifacts are minimized to help decrease the file size.
iShrinker’s algorithm is smart and works to reduce the image size allowing you to save up to 70% of space while preserving its original quality. You won’t be able to tell the difference with your eyes, but you’ll certainly notice how lighter your files will become. Heavy images are not a problem anymore!
